Picture the scene: The radioactive sources are ready, your faithful old S-Range Scaler-Timer is dusted off, your lovely new GM Tube Holder has arrived and…you realise the new Holder does not fit your old Timer. Frustrating? Yes. Unfixable? Certainly not.
The screw-on PET connector on the old S-Range Scaler-Timers and Digicounters became obsolete, so a number of years ago we updated our models to use BNC connector, which is much more widely available. Our GM Tube Holders also use a BNC, so current models are compatible with each other. However, it does mean a new Holder and older Timer might not connect.
But never fear, Tech Support are here, and we have a couple of options for you.
You could, of course, buy a new Scaler-Timer or Digicounter with BNC sockets to suit your Holder. However, we know budgets are ever tighter and replacing a working counter just because of its socket is not an always an option.
The PET Connector could be taken out of the Scaler Timer and be replaced with a BNC Socket. You can do this yourself as BNC Sockets are readily available from electronics suppliers and are inexpensive. Alternatively, our recommended spares and repairs agents Techlab Ltd. could carry out the replacement for you.
