Cobalt Glass

Piece of cobalt glass used in flame testing.

When flame testing for the detection of potassium ions, any sodium ions present mask the lilac colour with intense yellow, hence the presence of potassium may go undetected. However, on viewing the flame through the cobalt glass the presence of potassium is easily observed.
