Load the batteries, swing it in a full circular motion and your students will experience the doppler effect first hand!
- The apparatus enables students to clearly hear the Doppler Effect.
- Key Stage 3 Physics - Waves: Sound needs a medium to travel, the speed of sound in air, in water, in solids.
- Key STage 4 Physics - Waves: Explain that motion in a circle involves constant speed but changing velocity (qualitative only).
- Care should be taken to ensure no one is obstructing the path of the Doppler Ball when swinging.
- Always check the condition of the line before using the apparatus. Test that the line is securely attached to both the handle and the apparatus.The line must be replaced if it shows sign of wear or fraying.
